Situation
According to official statistics of governement 54% of Zambian population live in proximity of a medical center. Nevertheless the standard of medical care provided doesn’t have the basic quality due to lack of facilities, medicaments, educated doctors and hygienists. The rest of population lives to far from a medical center which is a big problem (poor infrastructure and expensive transport). There is no ambulance in the villages. Medical treatment in hospitals that are usually only in the cities is for free. However, in that case its quality is very low (patients without care of doctor, basic medicaments). If the medical treatment is payed, many people aren’t able to afford it. Pregnat women aren’t being taken care of and give birth at their homes. Present serious illnesses: malaria, tuberose (due to lowered immunity caused by AIDS), HIV
Current activities
● Programs (once a week) teaching how to take care of one’s body and how to prevent illnesses (how to protect oneself againts malaria, HIV and other illnesses) . ● Effort to cooperate with the closest medical center. Contributions for transport for the people who need to be treated by a doctor and for volunteers to test oneself on HIV (payed by the finances got from working of grinding room).
Success
● Regular medical check-ups for the children in schools ● Majority of people has put net againts mosquitos at their beds (elimination of danger of malaria) ● More people are being tested on HIV
